Coach Benjamin Collins
Benjamin Collins, Born in New Britain, Connecticut, Benjamin Collins brings enthusiasm, patience, and a love of learning to every DIG Chess program. Currently an Education major at the University of Bridgeport, Ben is studying to become a history and physical education teacher. Working with DIG Chess gives him the opportunity to watch students grow and develop their skills—something he finds both rewarding and inspiring.
Ben has coached chess at numerous schools across Fairfield County, including Riverfield Elementary, Burr Elementary, Jennings Elementary, Fairfield Country Day School, Greens Farms Academy (Middle School), Long Lots, Saugatuck Elementary, Kings Highway Elementary, the International School of Dundee, Tashua Elementary, and St. Ann’s Academy in Bridgeport. He also runs chess programs at local libraries and YMCAs throughout the area.
Beyond chess, Ben has coached the Bridgeport United U10 girls’ soccer team and enjoys helping young players build confidence and teamwork. A lifelong chess enthusiast, he started playing with his dad at age six and continues to enjoy the game both competitively and for fun. In 2023, Ben took first place in the University of Bridgeport’s school chess tournament—emerging victorious among more than 50 players and earning a $400 prize.
Through teaching chess classes, school break camps, summer programs, and birthday parties with DIG Chess, Ben continues to share his passion for strategy, learning, and inspiring the next generation of thinkers.
